Technology Ethics in Bio-Medicine VS Future Regulation, Promises and Mistakes
Is the merging of BioTech and NanoTech safe ask many humanists and religious folks. Now some regulators are debating these things as well. Will all this slow down the promise of increases in human longevity? Are we allowing our runaway fear to stop these technologies from moving forward? Recently this became a topic at the Online Think Tank. Technology Ethics in Bio-Medicine VS Future Regulation, Promises and Mistakes are important to discuss.
As one techno-savvy young man put it; Where is my Frigging Flying Car for that matter? No risk no gain. Science needs to continually push the envelope. The more we know the safer Bio-Tech and Nano-Tech will be. Detractors from life extension techniques say that these new biotech strategies could cause more problems than they help.
I suppose bio-tech nanomites to work at the cell level could be a problem if something goes wrong, but it is either that or robotic replacement, hearts, lungs, kidneys, eyes, ears, etc. Death by Robot or being broke spending your money for the latest bio-tech promises? You decide? Then there are the purists right? Humanists and the religious folks? Some say these things will divide the species, rich and poor, healthy and fat? Could be, we do not know?
I am optimistic for the future of nanotech and biotech. But I am cautious and hopeful that we do not repeat the past. These are real humans and people with real lives. What say you? I like Ray Kurzweils philosophy on it all. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007.
